Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon hot water

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
  • Divide the batter in half.
  • Dissolve cocoa powder in hot water and mix it into one half of the batter.
  • Alternate spooning the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared pan.
  • Swirl the batters together gently with a knife for a marbled effect.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
