- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon hot water
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In another large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
Divide the batter in half.
Dissolve cocoa powder in hot water and mix it into one half of the batter.
Alternate spooning the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared pan.
Swirl the batters together gently with a knife for a marbled effect.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
