- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter softened
- 1 packet 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg for egg wash
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and softened butter.
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
Place the loaf in a greased bread pan, cover, and let rise again for 30-40 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brush the top of the loaf with beaten egg for a golden crust.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
